Programs & Services
Christian Education For All Ages
Children
and Adults worship together beginning at 10:00 a.m. Part way
through the service the children and youth leave to participate
in a program designed for their age group. These studies are
intended to help them grow in faith, find meaningful friendships
and discover their unique gifts as children of God.
Children’s Program
 |
Biblical study is taught using the Godly Play program with storytelling, drama, and crafts. Key faith formation stories are explored using the Montessori method. |
Youth Program

Youth Plant Table at the Growing Community Spring Fair |
St. John’s Youth Group meets every Wednesday from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. We meet to grow spiritually and socially and to help our community. We strengthen our connection with God by reading the Bible, talking about spirituality and watching videos about Christianity.
New members are always welcome. For information contact Bernadette.
We have distributed hotdogs to the homeless; participated in Santa's Anonymous and Operation Christmas Child, filling shoe boxes with toiletries, useful items and small toys for children in third world countries; gathered clothing and household items for the earthquake victims in Haiti, which were sent through the Compassionate Warehouse. Soon, we will go to the Sanctuary Youth Centre to help serve dinner and socialize with local street youth.
We also do purely fun things like going swimming, playing laser tag and games.
At Youth Group, a main focus is our trip to Mexico to build houses for families who live in poverty in Vicente Guerrero. Some of us went on a similar trip last year and are eager to return this summer to reconnect with our Mexican families we worked with last summer. To raise money, we offer babysitting through our Kids' Night Out, and serve coffee and baked goods at Jazz and Celtic Vespers. As well we have other fundraisers planned and would appreciate all the support our local community can give us.

Book Study:
Small Group Experience
The Way of Prayer – Companions in Christ
Group meets on the
first Thursday of each month.
Please join us. 7 – 8:30 p.m.
Last spring we said:
"We need to pray! Vital congregations are praying congregations. Transformation for us as individuals, for our congregation, and for the planet depends on our being tuned into God’s desires, and prayer is one way that can happen. Through a wide variety of prayer practices … we can grow more and more deeply into the kind of people God has in mind for us; prayer is one way in which we can be transformed into people who bear the image of God".
Many of us participated in this prayer group last spring using The Way of Prayer as a guide. At the conclusion of our time we decided that to use the same resource at a much slower pace would help all of us to really get a feel for the variety of prayer practices the book offered. We agreed to begin again in September meeting once a month (on the second Thursday) for an initial learning/practice session, and then for those who felt the need for a second meeting a month, there would be an additional opportunity to check in on the fourth Thursday of the month.
Making Connections with the Bible
The scripture readings for the following Sunday will be our starting point as we seek to make connections between the ancient stories and our own lives and times. Tuesdays at 11:30 a.m. Bring a bag lunch. Coffee/tea is provided.

Music Team
We strive to provide high-calibre musical
leadership at worship services, mixed with a lot of fun.
To this end, we keep the tempo upbeat when the music and mood
allows for it, and have been known to "get jiggy with it"
when the Spirit moves us. We're also capable of stirring
renditions, when the Spirit moves us there, too. So, maybe
it's safe to say that it's all about allowing the Spirit to
move through us, through music.

Garden Ministry Team
The
Garden Ministry Team envisioned a revitalization of the church
garden to include a place to play, a place to meditate, a place
to garden, a place to celebrate and our Memorial
Garden as a place to remember. The garden is open year
round for the enjoyment of all. |

Children's
Playground in Fall
|
Arden
in the Garden
This
easy-going, fun-loving group of gardeners enjoys getting our hands
dirty in order to create something beautiful, but we're also
about much more than that. Through nurturing and appreciating
the beauty around us, we find that we are able to deepen our connection with God, that we help to create a place for God's love to reach
the ground.

The Social Action Team works for justice and equality in the world around us. "Small but vital" would best describe us.
We focus on:
We are also partners with our neighbour, the Deep Cove Elementary School in their twinning with Motati Primary School in Leribe Lesotho. This project will be a multi-year relationship drawing on resources from our church, the school and the broader Deep Cove Community.
